Project Description

In the Buterere zone, the members of the Kerebuka Mukenyezi cooperative more determined than ever to work together

“Joining others and working in development cooperatives is an imperative for all women.” These are the words of one of the thirty members of the Kerebuka Mukenyezi cooperative from Buterere. Since this savings and loan association joined forces with SEMERERA in November 2020, its members have benefited from several advantages from us, including intensive three-month training (on entrepreneurship, leadership, advocacy and management of joint development projects), a grant for the implementation of a joint income-generating initiative, and increased visibility of their activities. In one of the bi-weekly meetings with SEMERERA, members of this cooperative reiterated their appeal to other women in their area and elsewhere to join cooperatives and other savings and loan associations, to work together. They also made a commitment to support each other in the difficult times that women and girls often go through in Burundi. This commitment will materialize in particular through vigorous denunciation of all forms of violence against women, mutual aid, and advocacy for their cooperative.
