Project Description
Leadership and citizen participation of women

Despite the introduction in Burundi, since 2005, of a minimum quota of 30% for the participation of women in decision-making at the national level, the representation of women in local decision-making bodies, in particular the hill councils, remains very limited. Given that these local bodies play a preponderant role in the strategic planning process at the national level, the effective non-participation of women in these bodies limits their contribution in particular to the resolution of local conflicts, slows down any inclination to denounce violence against them. women and undermines any possibility of taking their interests into account in the planning process at the local level. To remedy this situation, SEMERERA is focusing its activities in particular on building the capacities of women in leadership and advocacy and creating opportunities to enable these women to develop their public speaking skills and take part in conflict resolution.
